Catching public transport (ie. buses or trains) give you lots of options to get around the region cheaply and efficiently. It allows you to sit back, relax and enjoy being driven- there’s even wifi on most buses and the train so you can safely use your device and catch up on work or admin while travelling. Grab your Bee Card from the Transport Centre and enjoy the ride.

What can you do to reduce the risk?

Bus

  • Board the bus through the front doors after those alighting are finished getting off.
  • Keep seated on the bus or hold a grip point  if standing to ensure you don’t fall over.
  • When alighting look both ways to ensure that the path is clear.
  • If you are concerned about the height of the step up or down on/off the bus ask the driver to lower the bus for you, this will mean you are less likely to trip/fall.
  • When crossing the road to a bus stop always choose the safest place.
  • Wait until the bus has departed and you can see the road clearly in both directions before crossing.

Train

  • Stand behind the yellow line on the platform while waiting for the train.
  • Wait for the train to come to a complete stop, before pressing the door open button to enter or exit the train.
  • Mind the gap between the train and platform.
  • Keep seated on the train if possible or hold a grip point if standing or moving about to ensure you don’t fall over.
