Managing fleet vehicles and drivers
A fleet vehicle is any vehicle used as a tool in the operation of a business or to deliver a service whether or not you require a transport service licence. It includes privately owned vehicles used for work purposes. Every business has an obligation to identify, assess and control the risks associated with vehicle used in their business.
What can you do to reduce the risk?
- Take an active role in encouraging your employees to drive safely
- Share driving where possible
- Keep all vehicles well maintained and service vehicles regularly
- Make informed vehicle selection choices - for safety and sustainability
- Provide staff training in both road and vehicle safety
- Ensure staff do a vehicle safety check before and during journeys
- Develop and implement a 'Safe Driving' policy
